IMAGI Studios ha annunciato una collaborazione con la Summit Entertainment (Michael Clayton, American Pie, Babel) per la realizzazione nel 2009 di un film basato sul manga Astro Boy di Osamu Tezuka.
Secondo quanto rivelato dalla IMAGI Studio, il cast per ora include l’attore premio Oscar Nicolas Cage (Leaving Las Vegas, The Rock, National Treasure), Donald Sutherland (M*A*S*H, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Dirty Sexy Money), Nathan Lane (The Lion King, The Producers, The Birdcage), Bill Nighy (Love Actually, Underworld, Pirates of the Caribbean) e Eugene Levy (A Mighty Wind, American Pie, Curious George). Il ruolo di Astro Boy sarà affidato a Freddie Highmore (Finding Neverland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Arthur and the Invisibles) .

La sceneggiatura del film è affidata a Timothy Harris, già apprezzato per il campione d’incassi Space Jam, mentre invece la regia è affitada a David Bowers (Flushed Away). Warner Bros Pictures e The Weinstein Company sono già stati annunciati quali distributori internazionali, ma non vi sono notizie sullo stato del progetto da parte loro.
